Becoming Your Best Future Self.
People say “fake it till you make it.” That could easily be misconstrued because people use it to live a purely fake life. They get in way over their head and even get into debt to sustain the life they are portraying. On social media, you see them flaunting things that are not theirs. That is an extreme, and that is not advisable. But it is okay to aspire to be more, so maybe we could say "believe in it and work till you achieve it".
Intentionally acting like the person you want to become, is a powerful way to achieve personal growth and reach your goals. Unlocking that person happens through intentional change and there are ways to do this. It involves a series of thoughtful steps.
§ You need to define your ideal self. What kind of person do you aspire to be? Identify the behaviors, habits and qualities of the person you want to become. You can even have a positive role model that embodies who you want to become and try to take positive learnings from them and their journey.
§ Set actionable goals. Develop a plan with specific, achievable goals. If it is how to draw closer to God or how do you want to improve your prayer life? Will you be praying 1 hour daily? Will you be joining prayer meetings to help you grow? Or do you want to become a professional in a particular field? What courses will you need to take to get there? Or do you want to reduce your sugar intake and start eating healthy? What kind of meals do you need to start eating? Do you need to exercise? Outline the steps you need to take.
§ You can start small so you don’t feel overwhelmed but make sure you practice consistency. Make sure those habits/ behaviors or actions are part of your daily routine because forming a new habit takes time and effort.
§ Track your progress and adjust your action plan as needed as you go along. It helps you to stay on track, improve and stay accountable.
§ Recognize that it will not be an easy ride, it will be challenging but stay positive and patient with yourself. Even if you fall, stand up again and learn from it. So long as you don’t give up, you are heading in the right direction.
§ Reward yourself. Celebrate your success no matter how small. You put in effort to achieve it, so enjoy that win.
