Knowing You; Chapter 2.

 Chapter Two

In no time, they begun conversing and fast became close friends. Tayo being the free-spirited fellow that he was, he made her laugh. He was the life of the party and knew how to have a good time. Mofe on the other hand was more level headed and grounded. They were introduced to each other’s circle and their friendship lasted for years.

None of them got the job but they both went on to become successful in their various careers. Being both IT specialists, Tayo worked in an IT company for a few years and went ahead to start his own company while Mofe got a role as an IT Manager / Customer Success Manager in her company.

They became really close, they got to meet each other’s families. Their friendship was unique and special, valued by both parties. They had developed a bond, became more dedicated workers in church and were there for each other when needed.

“This your friendship with Tayo, where is it leading?” Folusho asked Mofe as she walked into the living room with a plate of food in her hand.

“What do you mean?” Mofe asked as she followed her with a glass of water in her hand.

“It’s been four years that you guys have been forming friendship.  Akin and I have been married for a year now and yet you guys are still there.” Folusho teased.

“I don’t understand what you are implying. Tayo is my very good friend.” She responded a bit perplexed by her friend’s insinuations. She and Tayo were in a good place and she wouldn’t want anything to affect that friendship. He was there for her when she lost her job due to a scandal that almost ruined her reputation due to some corporate espionage. She stood her ground and wouldn’t get compromised. She lost her job because of that and Tayo was there for her and helped her get back on her feet.

“Ok, good friends also make great couples. After all, I met my dear husband through you and Tayo. It starts from friendship”. Folusho smiled. “Has he said anything in line with a relationship?”

“This one you are asking … he hasn’t because that is not the kind of relationship we have”, Mofe responded.

“Then how come you haven’t dated anyone in the past four years?” Folusho asked with a smirk on her face.

“I haven’t met anyone close to what I want and I will not settle. I will move when God says I should.” She responded as she took a sip of her water.

“Hmm you haven’t met anyone? When you spend all your time with Tayo.” Folusho teased. “What about this Tade guy that has been chasing you all over in church, isn’t he good enough?”

“What do you mean?”

“He is a child of God, the head of the protocol unit and a successful business man.” Folusho explained. “What else are you looking for? Tell me.”

“He is alright. I have no issues with him. I just don’t have that nudge to get into anything with him.”

“Or because he is not Tayo?” Folusho laughed.

“Come off it, I am not finding this funny. Tayo is my friend. Simple!” Mofe asserted as she was getting frustrated.

“Ok, Ok. I will drop it. I need to enjoy my meal anyways.” Folusho smiled and continued her meal.

The thought begun to linger in Mofe’s mind. Could this really be Gods will? Does she want to take their relationship further? Could Tayo really be the one? She wondered but then convinced herself that their friendship is enough.

“Guy how are you doing?” Akin asked Tayo.

“I am doing okay. Work has been hectic but God has been faithful”. He responded. “How is your wife doing?”

“She is great. Married life has been interesting. Who knew that when we met that day at the youth program four years ago, that we would end up being married.” Akin explained.

“Yea I know.” Tayo smiled.

“But Tayo, this your pad is nice. So many amazing gadgets. You this IT people.” Akin said.

“Yea what can I do? I am a sucker for gadgets.” Tayo responded.

“But this your apartment needs a woman. It seems very cold and dry.” Akin teased.

“You have started again, right?” He responded. “Please watch this football match!”

“Ignore it all you want Tayo. Its about time. You are not getting any younger.”

“Guy, when God says the time is right.” Tayo responded while trying to focus on the football match.

“What about Mofe? How is she doing?” Akin asked.

“She is doing great. We still spoke about an hour ago.”

“So what is going on with that? Are you people still in the friends zone?” Akin asked.

“Well… we are”. Tayo sighed.

“But when you met this lady, you liked her and wanted to date her. What changed?”

“I did my guy but then I wasn’t allowed in my spirit to ask her out.” Tayo responded. “Its like the holy spirit didn’t want me to.”

“Really? Since then?” Akin was surprised.

“Yes indeed. We are good friends and that is okay for me. At least for now”. Tayo said.

“You sure about that?”

“Well, she is all I want in a wife really. I was drawn to her then and still drawn to her now. We have been able to build a great friendship and I don’t want to ruin it. I would rather have her as a friend than not have her in my life at all.” Tayo explained.

“Hmm this is amazing!” Akin exclaimed. “Well, I do understand where you are coming from.”

“Yea”.

“I trust that God will direct you.”

“Thanks, my guy.” Tayo responded to Akin.
