Knowing You. Chapter 3.

Chapter Three

Tayo and Mofe’s friendship continued to grow and blossom. They spent more and more time together, attended marriage and relationship seminars and programs together. They challenged each other to read books and watch messages online from relationship and marriage ministers. They grew together.

“I am at your door.” Tayo said over the phone. “Mofe, are you ready?”

“Yes, I am coming out now.” She responded as she rushed out of her apartment and locked the door. “Where did you park?”

“Outside the gate.” He said. “Be fast, we don’t want to be late for this naming ceremony. Akin and Folusho will have our heads”

Mofe walked up to the vehicle and got in. “I am here. Thank you Tayo.”

“Don’t thank me. You always make us late with your make up and all. I don’t know what you are doing...” Tayo responded as he started the car.

“I am sorry. Why are you upset?” Mofe laughed. “Wont I look good? Its my friend’s baby’s naming ceremony. As the God mother, I have to look good for our baby.”

Tayo laughed so hard. “God mother on fleek.”

“Instead of you to say I look good.” Mofe teased.

“Yea you always look beautiful. You know that.” Tayo glanced at her and smiled.

“Let’s go.” Mofe blushed and smiled back.

They headed for the naming ceremony of Akin and Folusho’s baby. It was a beautiful ceremony. Tayo and Mofe watched as they danced and entertained their guests. Though Folusho was tired, having just delivered a baby seven days ago, she was still having a good time. It was a happy occasion.

“How many kids would you love to have?” Tayo asked Mofe amidst the celebrations.

“What?” Mofe was stunned. “What type of question is that?”

“I am just curious.” He responded.

“Well, two kids should be fine.” She smiled. “And you?”

“Same really. We would make beautiful children don’t you think?” Tayo had a smirk on his face.

Mofe laughed so hard. “You have started again with all these your funny jokes.”

“This one is not a joke Mofe.” Tayo responded with all seriousness. “Once we are done here, we should talk.”

This was odd for Mofe. She has not seem him this serious about talking. There was something different and she wondered what it was all about. She was looking forward to the talk.

They were able to support their friends. They stayed till all the guests had left. Mofe spent some time with her friend and the baby.

“Congratulations once again Folusho. Your little princess is so adorable.” Mofe said. “I am proud to be her God mother.”

“Thanks so much Mofe. Indeed, you are. Thanks for your support today. Being a mother is amazing. God indeed has been faithful.” Folusho responded.

“You must be tired.” Mofe said as she helped her friend take off her shoes and jewelry.

“Very, very. See as she is asleep now, she will wake up soon and I will have to nurse. So any little sleep I can get in now will be helpful but there is still a lot to get done this night.” Folusho explained.

“Well, your mum is around and you have help. Please let them help you.” Mofe said. “You need all the help you can get at this time so you can rest.”

“Don’t mind her.” Folusho’s mum said as she walked in. “Thank you Mofe. That is what I keep telling her.”

“But mum, you know …” Folusho attempted to respond.

“Don’t mum me, I know being a mum is new to you but you also need to find some time to rest. I can help out from time to time. Go and sleep. Your friend is right.” She said.

“Thank you mummy. We appreciate you.” Mofe said.

“You are welcome my darling.” She responded. “Now Folusho, go and take a shower then come and lay down for a while and get off your feet.”

“Ok mum.” She responded “Mofe, thanks so much for being here.”

“You are welcome, babes. I will give you a call tomorrow. Let me allow you.” Mofe said as she gave her friend a quick hug and headed out.

The drive home was unusually silent as Mofe and Tayo were quiet and barely said a word the whole way home. Tayo drove into Mofe’s compound and turned off the ignition. His heart begun to pound but he knew he had to keep his cool. Mofe kept watch and wondered what he had on his mind. But someone had to break the awkward silence.

“So…” They both said and laughed.

“That was a weird ride.” Mofe said.

“Yea I know. I think I made it weird with my announcement of us having to talk.” Tayo smiled.

“Yea, you were unusually serious. When I am not one of your office people.” She smiled.

“I know. I am sorry.” Tayo said. “What I wanted to discuss with you is quite serious and sensitive at the same time.”

“Ok… what is it?” She asked anxiously.

“We have been friends for quite some time and I cherish our friendship a whole lot and will not want to do anything to jeopardize it.” He said.

“Yea, me too”. She responded.

“To be honest Mofe, when we first met, I wanted to get to know you and see the possibility of dating you.” Tayo said as he scratched the back of his head.

“I know.” Mofe responded and smiled. “I was well aware.”

“But for some reason, I didn’t feel liberty to do that. Now that I look back, I think it was because we needed to grow more as individuals.” Tayo said.

“Okay…”

“In the last couple of years since knowing you, I have grown as a person, spiritually, in my career and also emotionally. Our friendship has taught me so much and I can say that now, I feel the liberty to ask you.” He explained.

“Ask me what?” Her heart was beating so fast and she wondered if this was it. What she had been asking God about. Was this it? Was this the confirmation of what He had told her?

“I want us to take our relationship to the next level. Its time. You are everything I need in a woman” He responded. “Mofe, will you marry me?”

His heart was beating so fast, almost out of his chest. If the holy spirit had given him liberty to ask her, then it must be right. Now is the time.

She was stunned and stared at him in amazement. He was indeed what she wanted in a man and the fact that they were first friends made her believe they had a solid foundation. She then felt peace in her heart and she smiled.

“Yes Tayo, I will.” She said,

He sighed a loud sigh. “Thank you, Lord.”

They both laughed and gave each other a hug. They stared at each other for a few minutes and then laughed again.

“This is not how I pictured it.” Mofe said. “You still have to go on one knee.” She smiled.

“Not to worry. I got you.” He smiled and sighed again. A sigh of relief and a heart filled with gladness. It was indeed their time. They had been prepared for this and it was time for them to move to the next level.

“Oh my God … I knew it.” Folusho screamed. “I knew it.” She was filled with excitement that she almost lifted Mofe off the ground with her hug.

“Be careful, you just had a baby.” Mofe laughed.

“Sweetheart, please be careful.” Akin said to Folusho with a huge smile. “We have been expecting this.” He said and faced Tayo. “Now you are a man.” He laughed.

“Okay now, I agree.” Tayo responded.

“So, when is the wedding, have we picked a date? Have you informed your folks? I am sure they would be so excited.” Folusho asked with so much excitement. “I am the maid of honor, right?”

“Calm down madam.” Mofe laughed. “And yes you are the maid of honor, who else.”

“See these women. Calm down Folusho, we haven’t picked a date yet but all in good time.” Tayo said.

“Congratulations once again my man.” Akin shook his friend’s hands and gave him a hug.

“Thank you Akin. Thanks guys so much for everything.” Tayo said. “Akin, you will give me tips on marriage. I need all the information I can get.”

“Don’t worry, I got you. “Akin responded. “Mofe if he does anyhow, report him to me and let me talk some sense into his head.”

“I will take you up on that. Thanks, Akin.” Mofe smiled.

“We will be starting counseling soon. I trust that everything will work out smoothly.” Tayo said as he held Mofe’s hands closely.
