Knowing You. Chapter 1.

Chapter One

Mofe and Tayo met at a job interview and became friends. They had just finished university and were on the hunt for a job. They attended the same university but never came across one another. Sitting in the waiting room of the interview, they got talking …

“Hi”, said Tayo with a big smile on his face. He had spotted the beautiful lady as she walked into the room and had been working up the courage to speak with her while she was getting settled in by the receptionist. He was fortunate that she was directed to sit next to him. To him, that was victory.

“Hello”, she responded as she gave him a confused look. She wondered what he wanted and why such a big smile considering they were there for a job interview which was a big deal. She immediately faced her file and tried to sort her documents.

“ We were asked to bring our School Leaving Certificate, NYSC certificate and resume”, Tayo said as he observed she was scrambling through her files.

“Thanks”, she responded as she got the documents together. She glanced round the room and saw that they were about five persons waiting for the interview.

“I hope they respond to us on time. I heard the receptionist say the Branch Manager was in a meeting.” Tayo explained to her as he adjusted himself on his seat.

“Well, we are still within the hour. I am sure they will get to us soon.” Mofe responded.

“So …” Tayo attempted to further the conversation.

“Uhm... sorry can we just focus on why we are here please.” Mofe said and tried to shut down the conversation. She didn’t see the need for it and felt it inappropriate considering where they were.

“My apologies.” He responded quietly after which the receptionist called in the first candidate in for the interview.

They interview session begun and concluded in time. Tayo went in before Mofe and he decided to wait outside the office building for her. He was instantly attracted to her and wanted to get to know this spicy lady more. She walked out of the office building and walked towards the gate. Tayo was standing close to the entrance.

“How did it go?” He asked.

“Oh you, still here?” She asked.

“Yes, I am. How did it go?” He asked again.

“Oh, it went well. I did the best I could do”. She responded. “And how was yours?”

“It went well. I believe I wowed them. I am sure I will be getting the job”, he responded with a smirk.

“See confidence.” She smiled.

“Yes, I am sure.” He smiled. “My name is Tayo by the way”.

“I am Mofe.” She responded.

“It is nice to meet you.” He said. “Which way are you heading?”

“Oh not to worry, my cab is here”, she said as she headed for the gate. “I need to leave now.”

“Okay then. It was indeed a pleasure meeting you. You don’t mind us exchanging contacts do you?” He said as he walked behind her.

They exchanged contact that day and Tayo felt that all round he had a good day. He attempted to reach her severally but she never responded. He wondered what could have made her not respond. He believed he made an impression. He always found solace in church and was eager to attend the youth program that was scheduled for that weekend. An avenue for him to refill for the new week. Being a worker in the church, he had tasks to complete ahead of the program. He decided to distract himself and get busy with God.

The program was one that had a famous preacher come in to speak to the youth on relationship and marriage. There were interactive sessions, games and so on. It was indeed a success. Tayo stood outside the church auditorium and was discussing with his friends.

“Don’t tell me you attend this church”.

He looked back and saw her standing with her friend. He was in shock.

“Wow! Mofe… Yes, I do”. He managed to respond with a smile. “How are you?”

“I am doing great. I also recently started attending this church”. She said. “Meet my friend Folusho”.

“Nice to meet you.” He responded and stretched his hand to shake hers.

“Same here.” Folusho responded.

“This is my friend, Akin.” Tayo introduced his friend.

“Hello ladies.” Akin said as he shook both ladies’ hands. “Trust, you enjoyed the program.”

“It was indeed a blessing.” Folusho responded as both ladies smiled.

“Uhm, Mofe, can I have a quick word with you?” Tayo requested as he took some steps away from the group.

“Sure.” Mofe responded and approached Tayo. “Wassup!”

“I have been trying to reach you in the last 4 days. I just wanted to check on you after the interview on Monday but you never responded to any of my calls or messages. Did I do anything wrong?” He asked.

“Oh no you didn’t. I lost my phone the day after and I am still in the process of getting my sim back but I got a new phone”. She responded.

“Wow! Sorry to hear that. I was a bit confused because I thought we got off on the right foot.” He said. “ But how did it happen?”

“Long story. I left it on a table at a restaurant I went to with my friends and when I went back in to check for it, I didn’t see the phone again. I am not usually careless but anyway it happens, I guess. “ She explained.

“Sorry to hear that.” He responded. “We should all go out sometime don’t you think?”

“Well not a bad idea. I have some time; at the moment I am job hunting. Same as Folusho. We just finished from City University.” Mofe said.

“Really, so did I.” He laughed. “I finished this year.”

“Me too”. She laughed. “This is really interesting.”

“It is indeed.” Tayo responded as they walked back to their friends. “Guys, beach… next weekend. How does that sound?”

“Sounds cool to me”, Folusho responded.

“Not a bad idea I guess.” Akin smiled.

“It’s a date then…” Tayo was glad to have been able to meet her again. It seemed like fate.
